Where Would You LOVE to Cook today!

I'm home! No this really isn't my house but
don't you just feel at home looking at the Picture.
I was surfing ....yes I do that sometimes....
just like you.....hehehehe
and I found this darling kitchen but it belongs
to a blog that the last post was 12/22/10
but if you do go there there is a recipe for
Chocolate Chip Cheese Cake that looks wonderful.
Well since that is where I am cooking today
I don't feel like the cake but I do feel like a treat for
Halloween and a fun site for that is:
And I want to make
Candy Corn Cookies
Candy Corn Cookies

Prep time: 30 minutes
Baking time: 10 minutes
Servings: Makes about 2 dozen cookies

1 (18-ounce) package refrigerated sugar cookie dough
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon grated lemon zest
1/8 teaspoon yellow food coloring paste
1 1/2 teaspoons grated orange zest
1/4 teaspoon orange food coloring paste
1/2 cup white chocolate chips
Orange and yellow decorator sugars

Directions

1.Preheat the oven to 350F. Using an electric mixer on low, beat the cookie dough and flour until combined. Divide the dough into 3 equal portions.
2.Add the lemon zest and yellow food coloring to 1 portion of dough. With the mixer on low, beat until blended; set aside. Add orange zest and orange food coloring to another portion of the dough; beat until blended. Leave remaining portion plain. Divide each dough section in half; wrap one portion of each color in plastic and refrigerate.
3.Roll the remaining portions of dough into 12-inch-long ropes. Arrange the dough ropes side by side on a lightly floured work surface with the orange rope in the middle. Place parchment paper over the dough; gently roll into a 15x4-inch rectangle. Remove the parchment paper. Using a knife and cutting at an angle, cut the rectangle into 12 equal triangles. Transfer the triangles, 1 inch apart, to an ungreased baking sheet. Push a ruler against the sides of the triangles to straighten edges. Repeat with the remaining dough.
4.Bake the cookies until lightly browned, 9 to 11 minutes; let cool for 1 minute. Transfer cookies to a wire rack and cool completely.
5.In a small microwave-safe bowl, microwave the white chocolate on High until melted, about 1 minute. Dip wide ends of cookies into chocolate then into colored sugars.
 Let stand until set.

She also as Creepy Monster Finger Cookies too!

Where would you LOVE to Cook Today?

Today I would really love to cook in this Kitchen...
I think I will wear my hair up and a beautiful floral apron.
I will use an amazing fluted edge bowl for my garage bowl....
Just like Rachel Ray....hehehe
And I will make....
hummm
How about:
Frisée Salad with Bacon-Shallot Vinaigrette

This sounds perfect!

Frisée Salad with Bacon-Shallot Vinaigrette
3 slice(s) bacon, cut into 1/2-inch pieces

12 ounce(s) (2 to 3 heads) frisée or 2 bags (5 to 6 oz. each) mixed baby salad greens
1 medium shallot, minced
2 tablespoon(s) white wine vinegar
1 teaspoon(s) Dijon mustard
1/4 teaspoon(s) salt
1/4 teaspoon(s) pepper
2 tablespoon(s) olive oil
6 large eggs

In 2-quart saucepan, cook bacon on medium 5 minutes or until browned, stirring occasionally.
Meanwhile, in 12-inch skillet, heat 1 inch water to boiling on high to poach eggs in later. Trim and discard stem ends from frisée; cut leaves into bite-size pieces. Place greens in large bowl.
Remove saucepan from heat. With slotted spoon, transfer bacon to paper towels to drain; discard all but 1 tablespoon bacon fat.
Into bacon fat remaining in skillet, whisk shallot, vinegar, Dijon, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon coarsely ground black pepper. In slow, steady stream, whisk in oil until combined. Add warm vinaigrette to bowl with frisée and toss until evenly coated.
Reduce skillet heat to medium to maintain water at gentle simmer. Break eggs, one at a time, into cup. Holding cup close to surface of water, slip in each egg. Cook eggs 3 to 5 minutes or until whites are set and yolks begin to thicken. With slotted spoon, lift out each egg and quickly drain, still in spoon, on paper towels.

To serve, divide frisée among 6 salad plates; top with bacon and egg. Sprinkle egg with coarsely ground black pepper if you like.

Vanilla Extract or Vanilla Bean Paste?

Nielsen-Massey Vanilla Paste

I recently got a recipe that called for Vanilla Bean Paste and I had never heard of it. Since it is way more expensive than Vanilla extract I thought I didn't want it for just 1 recipe so I started reading. Vanilla bean paste is a lot thicker and resembles a thick syrup. I would never lick my fingers with vanilla extract on it but with Vanilla  bean that's a different story. It is really good to use in ice cream , cupcakes, cookies and frosting. It has little brown flakes in it making it look a lot more like vanilla. I am sure Ben and Jerry's vanilla bean ice cream has paste instead of extract in it. That's what the brown flakes are Vanilla Bean. It is harder to find than extract but you can get it at Williams-Sonoma and  Sur La Table. Now that I have used this I LOVE IT!

Pressure Cookers are so much Pressure!!

Oh the pressure....I am old school when it comes to these....I was raised you stay away from the stove when Mom was using the preassure cooker. I have been going to Melanie's Cooking Classes for at least 2 years now and she is always using hers. After 1 year I finally got brave enough to buy one....a few months later I was brave enough to open the box and start reading the manual.....That took a month....I have now mastered "Carrots". And my carrots are to die for! It really has taken alot to get me past by fear and over the weekend I used it for 3 other recipes....YES I branched past carrots!  I did Manhatten Clam Chowder in it and it took ...with prep time 30 minutes from start to finish! So I have now decided I love this pan! I did follow Melanie's suggest and bought a Kuhn Rikon. It really is easy its just passing the fear! LOL! Let me know how you like your if you have one!

Making My Own Cookbook!

This is so fun I made this book at yourstoryonline.net
This is so fun! you can even use the clip art you already have since they don't have to much yet. But they will! i left the last 3 pages empty so I can have space to add a few of my favorites sometime. And if you have the Yourstory machine you can bind it into a real book! What great gifts! You have got to try this, it is really fun to do. I have even done vacation book and recipe books that are 4 X 6. I love this machine and site.
Let me know if you like it!

I love to read cookbooks and sometimes I make 1 or 2 things. But this cookbook is so fun I have already made 6 recipes and have plans for more! This book was written by Stephanie Ashcraft and she says her mother taught her "that anything could be made with a cake mix." This easy-to-read cookbook has recipes for everything from Chocolate Chip Cookies to Lemon Squares. I made the lemon squares tonight and prep time was about 5 minutes. I love it! I took them to work and they loved them!
there are helpful hints that teach you a few tricks about baking cakes, making chewier cookies and keeping fruit fresh. This book should be in everyone's cookbook library. And not just for reading!

Addicted to Aprons!

I love aprons! I would wear one to work and bed if I could. There is nothing more fun than cooking with a pretty apron on. I swear my food taste better when I wear one. I even like to make them. And it they have become very popular again.
You can find hundreds of patterns but I really like the old fashion ones that I call " full frontal". Ones that cover me from a little below my neck to down to my knees. It always amazes me where I can spill while cooking. I feel like Sandra Lee decorating her kitchen, when I plan what I am wearing to go with my apron. And some days that is easier said than done. Because after all, if I look pretty while fixing a meal for a friend or family they always think I cook better than I do!
I did find the best place to get free apron patterns......
http://tipnut.com/56-free-apron-patterns-you-can-make/
and if you google "free apron patterns" you can even find more! And I thought for 11/26 "National Tie One On Day" this would be a great place to find a pattern if you want to make make your give-away apron. But just in case it turns out to cute...make 2. It almost just as easy to make 2 as 1. I think one of my favorite memories of my grandmother is coming into her kitchen as a child and smelling the wonderful things she was making and seeing her in her apron! It made me feel so content to be at her house.
I would love to hear from any of you that love aprons as much as I do, and have a favorite story.
So until next time remember "cooking miracles happen when you wear your apron"!
